Acorns

English Oak: Quercus robus L

A row of English Oak trees were planted by the Town of Markham along the walking path in a park backing onto our previous home. These hardy trees produce interesting leaf formations with small clusters of fruit, being acorns. From year to year the amount of acorns produced can vary. With all the squirrels searching for dropped acorns, invariably a newly seeded plant would appear in our garden every Spring. In this watercolour painting I was able to capture the silky smooth sheen of the acorn shell, and the complicated texture and design of the cap.
