Bee Balm: Monarda didyma

Hummingbirds love zipping around in search of colourful plants looking for rich nectar. They are mostly attracted to red tone tubular blooms, but also look to feast on orange, pink, yellow and white blooms as well. Bee Balm is a very resilient plant and is characterized with its topknot like bunching of main petals. The scarlet coloured flowers offer easy access for Hummingbirds to the tube-shaped petals.

This piece was painted in watercolour and incorporated the male Hummingbird to create further visual interest. Bee Balm flowers also attract pollinators like butterflies and bees.
