Crabapple

Crabapple: Malus coronaria

This full botanical piece was created in watercolour and in a more historical botanical style to show the progression of blooms to fruit. In spring these trees produce beautifully fragrant multiple blossoms in white to pink in colour. Fruit in the form of small apples develop in clusters and can vary in colour.

At one time the fruit was often made into crabapple jelly, but because of the small fruit size, yields make this project very labour intensive.
