Johnny-Jump-Ups: Viola Tricolour

This composition was painted in watercolour, in a traditional botanical style incorporating the roots into the piece. This native plant produces many colourful and solitary perky blooms, which can be grown from seed, but with its strong root system it can multiply easily. “Tricolour” refers to the species from the Pansy Violet. This plant with its pretty little flowers was a favourite in my mother’s garden and frequently graced our family dinner table in small and sweet bouquets.
