Peony

Peony: Paeonia lactiflora

Historically a much-loved and spectacularly beautiful perennial plant, prized in the Imperial gardens of China, Siberia, and Tibet. In this coloured pencil composition, I show the tight and hardy buds developing into large, showy, and often top-heavy stems of dense petals. Blooms range in colour from white, pink, and red to deep crimson, having a rose-like resemblance. The Peony plant is easy to grow and tolerates our Canadian winter temperatures well, and is now often found in floral arrangements.
