False Sunflower and Bumble Bee

False Sunflower (Prairie Sunset) with Bumble Bee:  Heliopsis helianthoides var scabra

This composition of a False Sunflower with a Bumble Bee was painted in water colour. The flower blooms with golden overlapping petals and a rosy coloured centre. This flower was photographed watching a busy Bumble Bee, with near translucent wings, working over the bristled-haired centre of the flower. These important pollinators play a critical role in our ecosystem.

This particular composition was created in a non-traditional botanical style. The flower petals were painted out to all of the edges of the paper and designed to create a strong visual interest and to showcase the Bumble Bee.
