Tamarack, Larch (pine cones): Larix laricina
This branch of Tamarack pine cones was created in the medium of graphite pencils. The pine cones on this hardy coniferous tree are quite small, growing in broad and rounded scales and light brown in colour. The formation of the unusual layering of the scaly bark and the spur-like branches creates interesting visual interest. I had previously completed a workshop with graphite artist Mike Sibley, who teaches in the diverse use of graphite pencils to increase depth, contrast and tone.
