Rosehips (Watercolour)

Rosehips: Rosa, rosaceae

This composition of a stem from a rosa bush was painted in watercolour. Once the delicate and fragrant flower petals have finished blooming and drop, the clusters of fruit appear as hips. The sunlight on the brick-red globular hips gives them an almost wax-like image. The drying, curling and colourful Fall leaves show evidence of ingesting insects for further visual interest.
