Tomatillo

Tomatillo: Physalis philadelphia

The inspiration for this watercolour composition came from a package of seeds my son Tim thought might be a fun addition to our home garden. The seedlings quickly multiplied and by the end of summer we had a bumper crop of little green Mexican fruit. The small, yellow, delicate blooms matured into fruit encased in web-like lantern shells. One of the most popular uses for eating the small green tomatillo fruit is to make green salsa, which we did enjoy.
