Trumpet Honeysuckle
Trumpet Honeysuckle: Lonicera semperivrens
This native climbing vine has several common names including coral honeysuckle, trumpet honeysuckle, woodbine, and Japanese honeysuckle. The very fragrant, tubular and backswept petals offer a great attraction as a nectar source for bees, hummingbirds and butterflies.
In this coloured pencil piece, I am illustrating a female hummingbird dipping into a trumpet vine bloom for nectar. You usually hear the rapid beating of the wings of these fascinating little birds before you actually see them.
