Wild Geranium

Wild Geranium: Geranium maculatum

This composition of a Wild Geranium was painted in watercolour. The Wild Geranium, also known as Spotted Cranesbill, is a native plant generally found in woodlands and meadows. It established itself in a partially shaded native plant garden running along the side of my home. It grows well next to Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Bleeding Hearts, Wild Ginger, and Ferns. The pretty and delicate pink blooms attract butterflies and some birds.

“Geranium” comes from the Greek word “geranos” meaning “crane”, as in the beak-like style of the fruit, and “maculatum” means “spotted”.
